Michelle – Rehabilitation Support Worker
Michelle has dedicated her career to helping people improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life through movement. Her passion for rehabilitation began in her early thirties when she qualified as an aerobics instructor, inspiring a lifelong commitment to understanding how physical activity can support both physical and mental wellbeing.
Driven to expand her knowledge, Michelle returned to education as a mature student and graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Fitness and Health. During her studies, she developed a particular interest in exercise psychology and the positive impact that physical activity can have on mental health, shaping the person-centred approach she brings to her work today.
Michelle's professional journey includes working within Oxleas NHS in a secure mental health setting, where she coordinated physical activity programmes for inpatients living with complex mental health conditions, including paranoid schizophrenia and personality disorders. Supporting individuals to improve their wellbeing through structured exercise reinforced her belief in the powerful role rehabilitation can play in helping people regain confidence, independence and quality of life.
Throughout her career, Michelle has continued to support individuals with a wide range of long-term and neurological conditions, including dementia, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. She also has extensive knowledge of chronic pain management, working with people living with conditions such as scoliosis, ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia and arthritis. Her compassionate and adaptable approach enables her to tailor rehabilitation to each individual's goals, abilities and circumstances.
As a Rehabilitation Support Worker with RMR Support Worker Ltd, Michelle brings a calm, compassionate and holistic approach to rehabilitation. Drawing on her experience in both mental health services and community-based support, she works with individuals to build confidence, develop independence and achieve meaningful goals through personalised rehabilitation that recognises the connection between physical and emotional wellbeing.
Michelle's qualifications include a BSc (Hons) in Fitness and Health, alongside certifications in Personal Training, Exercise Referral, Older Adults, Chair-Based Exercise, Level 4 Mental Health and Sports Massage. She combines her knowledge of exercise, mental health and therapeutic movement to provide holistic, person-centred support that reflects RMR's collaborative approach to rehabilitation.
